Four Decades of Impact: Pinang Medical Supplies and the Evolution of Homecare

It was a great privilege to meet with Mr. Teh, the founder of Pinang Medical Supplies Sdn Bhd (PMS), on 6 August 2026 at Global Rep.

PMS established in 1980 and headquartered in Penang, Malaysia, is a leading distributor and retailer of medical devices, disposables, and healthcare products. With over four decades of experience, PMS has built a strong presence across Malaysia and Singapore, operating branches in Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Johor, Ipoh, and its retail arm, HomeCare Shop, which is recognized as Malaysia’s largest home care chain store. The company supplies a wide range of products including wheelchairs, orthopedic supports, posture care devices, pain management tools, elderly care solutions, incontinence products, and daily living aids, while also distributing exclusive international brands such as Obena, OppO, Backjoy, Karma, Etac etc. PMS imports from multiple countries and procures locally, serving hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and direct consumers, and has expanded into e-commerce through its own online store and platforms like Shopee. Renowned as a trusted market leader, PMS is committed to improving quality of life by making healthcare and wellness solutions accessible, affordable, and reliable.

We conducted a comprehensive review of current trends, challenges, and the future outlook in homecare product supply, homecare services, nursing homes, and hospitals. The session with Mr. Teh was truly eye‑opening, and we were deeply impressed by his foresight regarding the homecare industry. We are honored to have gained insights into his vision for advancing homecare across multiple dimensions to benefit the community, as well as his strategy to support and nurture younger generations in building sustainable homecare businesses. We are pleased to extend to PMS our medical device registration services, enabling Global Rep to add value to a homecare industry that is rapidly evolving into a technology-driven, patient-centred ecosystem, fuelled by strong growth in Malaysia and globally due to aging populations, demand for aging-in-place solutions, and the integration of AI, remote monitoring, and personalized care.

According to Coherent Market Insights, the global homecare market in 2026 is valued at over USD 650 billion, with medical equipment and elderly care driving the largest shares. North America leads with approximately 35% of the market, while Asia Pacific—including Malaysia—is rapidly expanding with a 25% share, fuelled by aging populations and the growing demand for aging-in-place solutions. The homecare business is both lucrative and future-proof, particularly in Malaysia where demographic trends and regulatory clarity create strong opportunities. Success in this sector depends on embracing technology adoption, delivering community-focused services, and maintaining strict compliance — especially in medical device registration and post-market surveillance.

Most homecare products fall within the definition of medical devices. For example, wheelchairs provide mobility for individuals with disabilities or medical conditions; limb supports stabilize, align, or support weakened or injured body parts, serving a therapeutic role in rehabilitation, pain reduction, and mobility improvement; and posture care products help prevent, correct, or support musculoskeletal alignment. In line with the Malaysia Medical Device Act 2012, any establishment intending to market medical devices must ensure that the devices are duly registered prior to commercialization.
